The service

What is LovLan?

LovLan is a subsidiary of a major international language training organization. For nearly 20 years, we have been connecting people eager to learn new languages with skilled and qualified Tutors around the world. LovLan specializes in offering customers affordable, one-to-one or small group, online lessons with their Tutor of choice.

What are the qualifications of our tutors?

All our Tutors are native speakers of their language and have teaching experience. Most of our Tutors have a certified teaching qualification and/or a university degree related to their language.You can read more about each Tutors’ qualifications on their individual profiles.

Which languages do you offer?

LovLan teaches any language. If you do not see the language you want to learn in the filter on the homepage, this is simply because the list would be too long if we included them all.

Bookings & Profiles

How do I create a profile?

Click on Register, select “I want to Learn a language”, add your name, email and desired password, and then fill in the required fields. We ask for a minimum of information just so that we and our tutors can keep in contact with you. You do not have to write anything about yourself in the Personal Details but if you do, that will make our Tutors more comfortable knowing a little more about you in advance of the class and help them decide if they are the right fit for you when you make contact with them.

Why do I need to create a PIN for my profile?

Your PIN confirms your identity as owner of the account. We will ask you to use it when making bookings, rescheduling/cancelling lessons, and confirming the completion of a lesson. Your PIN is secret and only you will have access to it. You should never give it to your Tutor or to any LovLan employees. You can change it at any time by logging into your profile.

How do I book a lesson?

After you have found the Tutor you want, click to book your lesson(s). Select the dates and times you want from the Tutor’s calendar. After you have selected when you would like your lessons (you can choose as many as you want), you will be asked to make the payment. Once the payment has been confirmed, we will send you a message to confirm the booking.

How much is the booking fee for students?

We charge a small processing fee of 7% which goes towards our bank charges (unfortunately, PayPal charges alone can cost us up to 5%) and our administration charges, enabling us to offer you the best possible service.

Can I book a trial lesson before committing to a tutor?

Yes, although this is up to each individual Tutor. Some Tutors offer short (30 minutes), trial lessons for a reduced rate or even free of charge, others do not. When you look through the Tutors, you will see the Trial lesson rate of each Tutor.This is because some of our Tutors believe that meeting potential students before committing to a series of language lessons helps to build confidence and trust. Meanwhile, others prefer to let their profiles do the talking. If you would like a trial lesson, you can filter Tutors by those who offer one. To book a trial lesson, navigate to the Tutor’s profile and click the “Book Trial Lesson” button.

Can I book a series of lessons with the same Tutor?

Yes, you can book as many lessons as you want. Please note, some Tutors may set a minimum number of study hours to book them (up to 10 hours) because they are interested in a certain level of commitment, so keep this in mind if you only want one or two lessons. There is no upper limit to the number of lessons you can book with a single Tutor.

Are all bookings accepted automatically?

This depends on how the Tutor has set up his/her profile. Some Tutors will accept bookings automatically; others will approve them manually, typically within one business day.

What happens if a Tutor rejects my booking?

We will invite you to choose another Tutor. If you cannot find an alternative Tutor with whom you are happy to have your lesson(s), we will arrange an immediate refund.

Can LovLan help me choose a Tutor?

Unfortunately not. You are responsible for finding your own Tutor. However, if this is a service you desire, along with a fully personalized language course tailored to your level, needs, and goals, contact us and we can put you in contact with our parent language company that offers full service language courses.

How do I see my upcoming bookings?

Log in to your profile to see your lesson history, how many hours you have booked, how many hours you have taken, and the dates of any former and upcoming lessons.

What do I need to have my lesson online?

All you need is a computer or mobile device with video communication capability, a good Internet connection, and suitable communication software (we recommend Skype, Zoom, or Meet).

Why does my profile ask for my current language level?

After you book your lesson, your Tutor can access and view your profile. The more information you can give your Tutor before your lesson, including if you already know some of the language, the more they can prepare appropriate exercises and materials.

How do I know my level?

Can more people join me for the class?

Yes, LovLan provides one-to-one and closed group services for up to 8 students together. You can use the search filter to quickly find the Tutors on our platform that offer group lessons. It is not necessary that everyone in your closed group has a profile with LovLan. However, as the person with the profile, who has purchased a course and agreed to our Terms and Conditions, you will be responsible for ensuring your fellow group members attend classes and are respectful to the Tutor. You represent the other parties in your group at all times. The Tutor will only communicate with you (and not the others) via our internal messaging system. Therefore, if you need to organize times of lessons, reschedule bookings, ask any questions, or cancel lessons, you do so on behalf of the whole group.

Can I contact the Tutor before the lesson?

Yes. Once you have booked a lesson, both you and your Tutor will receive confirmation of the booking. You can then communicate with each other via our internal messaging system.

After booking a series of lessons, can I change my Tutor?

Yes; however, you will need to cancel any outstanding lessons with your current Tutor and then create a new booking with your desired Tutor. You must cancel your outstanding lessons with more than 24-hours’ notice to cancel for free. If you cancel within 24 hours of a lesson taking place, you must pay for that lesson, even if you choose not to take it.

What happens if my Tutor cannot continue before completing our agreed lessons?

Inform us via email. If we cannot help your Tutor to continue to provide you with your lessons, we will find an equivalent Tutor to complete your online language classes with you. You will not be charged any additional money, and we will endeavor to match you with a Tutor with similar or better experience and qualifications. Where this is not possible, we will issue an immediate refund for any classes which have not been taken.

How do I delete my profile?

Inform us via email and we will send you an email to confirm that you really want to delete your profile. After you give us that confirmation, we will delete your profile for you.

Lessons

What is the duration time of a lesson?

Lessons are a minimum 60 minutes (1 hour) but students and tutors can choose to organize longer classes.

What level of proficiency do your tutors teach?

Lessons are available from Beginner to Advanced levels. If you want to know your current level, please read our section on How to Find Out Your Current Language Level or contact us for assistance.

What if I want to learn a language for a specific reason?

If you want to learn a language for a specific reason, such as business, tourism, relocation, etc., you can filter your tutor search according to specialties.

Will my tutor speak my language?

Our tutors encourage fast and organic learning by speaking the language you want to learn as much as possible throughout the lesson. However, if you want a tutor that speaks your native language as well (most speak English to a high level), you can filter your tutor search for additional languages that they speak.

Do I need a course book?

No. Your Tutor will discuss course material options with you in your first session, where you will mutually decide what is best for you and your learning approach. In some cases, your Tutor may agree to provide materials to you digitally, while for more substantial resources (like a course book), you may need to purchase a hard copy or digital version. You are responsible for any materials you choose to purchase, and any resources used in your lessons are strictly at the determination of your Tutor and you. LovLan takes no responsibility for any such resources and will not provide with refunds of such resources in the event that you do not like the book that your Tutor has recommended.

How do you know the class took place?

At the end of your each, your Tutor will send you a link where you should confirm you attended the class. You will need your profile PIN to access the link and confirm your attendance. You must do this each time or your Tutor will not get paid for your class.

How do I leave feedback?

Using the same link to confirm your lesson attendance, we will ask you to leave a rating for your Tutor (1 to 5 stars). Later, we will also invite you to leave written feedback privately (to us and to your Tutor) and publicly, which will appear on your Tutor’s profile. You can also send a private message to us at any time if you want to say something privately about your Tutor and do not want them to see it.

Do I get a certificate at the end of the lessons?

Yes. For every 20 hours of lessons completed for any particular language, you can request a certificate and LovLan can issue you a certificate with your current proficiency level (as assessed by your Tutor). Please note, the certificates we issue are not independently adjudicated, and so do not qualify as officially accredited qualifications. If you would like to achieve official recognition of your language level, contact us and we can connect you with our parent language training company that can arrange this. We regret we cannot issue certificates for less than 20 hours of lessons in any language.

Can I have more classes if I like how the lesson went?

Yes, and you can book as many you want.

Can I organize lessons with my chosen Tutor privately, outside of your platform?

No, this is strictly forbidden and against out terms and conditions. If we suspect you have used our service to find a Tutor and then bypassed our booking process, we will review your communications on the internal messaging system. If we determine you have violated this rule, your account will be permanently deleted and we may seek legal recourse against you and your Tutor. We trust such action will not be necessary. For a very modest commission, we provide a platform to connect professional and qualified language trainers around the world with honest and enthusiastic learners. In exchange for keeping prices as low as possible while providing a convenient and intuitive service, we believe you will honor our reasonable terms of service.

What if I don't like my Tutor or my lesson?

We invite our students to leave feedback about their lessons and Tutors after the class has finished. If you do not like your Tutor or your lesson and request a refund, we will review the complaint and determine if it is warranted.

Can I reschedule a lesson after I have booked it?

Yes, you can reschedule a class free of charge by contacting your Tutor directly, provided it is 24 hours or more before the lesson is scheduled to take place. It is not possible to reschedule a class within 24 hours. Inability to attend a class with less than 24-hours’ notice will be regarded as the lesson having been taken. Your Tutor will send you a link for you to digitally confirm (using your PIN) the late cancellation.

Can I cancel a lesson or lessons after I have already booked?

Yes, you can cancel a class and receive a full refund, provided it is 24 hours or more before the lesson is scheduled to take place. It is not possible to cancel a class within 24 hours. Inability to attend a class with less than 24-hours’ notice will be regarded as the lesson having been taken. Your Tutor will send you a link for you to digitally confirm (using your PIN) the late cancellation.

Pricing

Are there any hidden costs?

No, we do not add any hidden costs, including sales tax.

How do I request a refund?

In your Payments and Balances page in your account, you will be able to click the Please Refund Me link and tell us if you want a complete or partial refund. We will process your refund by the end of the working week.

What payment options can I use?

For now, all payments must be taken via PayPal or, if you do not have a PayPal account, you can use debit or credit card via the PayPal system (it is not necessary to have an account with them). However, we will offer more payment options very soon!

Do you store my payment details?

No. All payments are processed externally via PayPal. We only keep a record of your PayPal address but we do not have any access to your PayPal account.
