What Are Language Levels?

Language Levels are used to define your language proficiency. They quickly provide students and third-parties (including teachers) with a summary of the student’s current ability to use and comprehend the language. It is worth noting that Language Levels are not always entirely accurate. People learn distinct elements of a language at different rates and levels of effort. For instance, you might learn vocabulary quickly but struggle with grammar. Or maybe you are a natural at reading and writing, but find it difficult to understand native speakers in a conversation. Therefore, it is entirely possible to be one Language Level for one set of skills, e.g. listening, and a completely different level for something else, e.g. reading. However, more often than not, your levels will be the same or similar across your language skills.

Why is it useful to know my language level?

If you already know some Polish, your teacher will consider this and plan suitable lessons, exercises, and resources to optimize your learning. Similarly, if you are a complete beginner, you need not waste lesson time discussing this with your teacher. Instead, they will plan an appropriate first lesson to introduce you to basic Polish words, sounds, and characters. As well as helping your teacher to craft highly personalized lessons right away, knowing your Language Level is also a motivational tool. By understanding your ability now, you can monitor your progress during and after the course, witnessing your improvement in real time!

For each question, select the answer you believe is correct. If you are not sure of an answer, select the “I don’t know” option—do not guess, as this may negatively affect your final rating.
