Здравствуйте, меня зовут Николас! That means "Hello, my name is Nicholas!" If the Cyrillic alphabet looks challenging, don't be discouraged! The first step to learning Russian is learning how to read the Cyrillic alphabet, so that's where we'll begin. It's easier than it looks, because Russian has many of the same sounds as English. In fact, Russian is a distant relative of English, German, Spanish, French and many other languages! We'll also learn the basics of Russian culture. To get a head start, I'll help you choose a Russian name to use in class, something we did in my university Russian 101 class. Then we'll start with basic phrases, and learn vocabulary and grammar as we go along. I promise you won't regret learning the incredibly beautiful and useful Russian language!
I graduated from Miami University (OH) with a major in political science and a minor in Russian, East European, and Eurasian studies. I studied Russian for 3 years, and I was a teacher's assistant for first and second year Russian students. In summer 2017 and fall 2018, I did the CIEE Russian Area Studies program at Saint-Petersburg State University. Aside from Saint-Petersburg, I have spent time in Moscow and the Russian republics of Chuvashia and Tatarstan.
