About Stephen

I know all too well that awkward feeling when we begin to learn a language. The good news is that you will only get better and that depends on your commitment to learning and your professor. I've mastered five languages and I've done so because I know how to break down concepts and pronunciation in novel ways. With me, learning languages is fun — as it always should be. In class, I use music, videos, newspapers, grammar exercises, and pieces of literature to give you a well rounded entry into the language. Classes are always delivered in the target language, never in English: this is most effective method and closest to what it is like to be in a foreign country when you can't rely on English to get you by. Teaching Expertise

I have taught Portuguese, Spanish, Italian, and Catalan for over twenty years both informally and formally in universities such as Harvard, Brown, Cornell, the University of Michigan, and the Universidade Federal de Pernambuco (Brazil).

Stephen's Qualifications

- I carry a Phd in Portuguese & Brazilian Studies from Brown University and a BA and MA from Cornell University in Hispanic Literatures.
