I have been teaching Italian for more than 10 years now at different institutions. The variety of classes I have delivered have provided me with considerable experience in teaching Italian as a foreign language for a variety of student profiles and contexts. When I start teaching Italian to a new student, the first thing I do is to tell him/her to forget about English language. We are going to listen, speak, write, read and have conversations in Italian language. Students will learn with me how to use correctly the grammar, spelling, expressions but also the culture, art and history about Italy. They will be able to read articles, novels, watch films and sing correctly Italian lyrics. My focus as a language teacher is on practicality and focusing on functional usage of the target language. While things like grammar and sentence structure are certainly important, these things can be learned in books, online, etc. and they are easily forgettable. I find that the best way to learn is through immersion and conversation - remember that the main purpose of any language is to get your point across! I also focus more on modern forms of the language, because many textbooks and academic sources are outdated and don't reflect the way native speakers actually communicate in real life situations. Using the knowledge I gained in my time spent abroad, my goal is to teach you how to sound just like a native, or help you with whatever you may be interested in! A presto!
