If I'm teaching Japanese people English the first thing I would do is tell them to stop translating English to Japanese, because I tend to find that trying to speak like a native is way more effective than translating it back to your language. I would help them to pronounce different words in everyday life and help to understand different meanings in a sentence. When I teach people English I teach it the most fun, interesting, and inspiring way possible as I believe that you succeed a lot more whilst having fun learning a language rather than just acting like a robot telling them to read textbooks and learn paragraphs. Sometimes this is intimidating to the student which is why that I will go at their pace and encourage them every step of the way. I will also use various games and fun activities to encourage participation and break down some of their barriers. When I start to teach a language to anybody, I always speak the language to learn in a dynamic way so they can learn quickly. I use to write a lot of vocabulary on the screen so they can learn a lot of words and start to use them !
