Before leaving Colombia and moving to the UK, I decided that I was ready to come back to teaching not only because it’s what I love doing but I felt that in my previous position as state coordinator for bilingualism I had gained the necessary skills to go beyond just being a good teacher in terms of being a subject expert but by becoming a more holistic teacher i.e. one that focuses on the development of a broader set of competencies that empower the student to become an independent learner. I have successfully prepared students for the National University entrance interview and exams in Colombia as well as having helped in-service teachers apply for (and win) international scholarships.
