My teaching style is catered according to the students requirements

I have taught English to a wide range of ages and abilities for twenty years. My classroom experience ranges from personal tutoring to corporate seminars to small groups of English speakers learning Chinese to classrooms of 30 plus 5-6 years old. I am familiar with and utilize several different methodologies and techniques to enhance language learning. I speak three languages and have lived and worked in different countries. Straight from college I was offered a position a position at the Modern Languages Department. So I started my career as a language teacher. I also did some freelance translation, including fiction translation. For some time I worked as a full time translator in an international trading company in Moscow. Some of the expats I used to work with asked me about Russian language classes and that were my first steps in teaching Russia as a foreign language. Then in Pushkin Institute I got some a course in methodology of foreign language teaching. For some time I worked in Finland where I taught Russian for foreigners. I have developed a remote course in teaching methodology for Russian Center of Moscow State University and I still teach there part-time.

If I'm teaching Japanese people English the first thing I would do is tell them to stop translating English to Japanese, because I tend to find that trying to speak like a native is way more effective than translating it back to your language. I would help them to pronounce different words in everyday life and help to understand different meanings in a sentence. When I teach people English I teach it the most fun, interesting, and inspiring way possible as I believe that you succeed a lot more whilst having fun learning a language rather than just acting like a robot telling them to read textbooks and learn paragraphs.
